Senior Manager Credit

The Senior Manager Credit is responsible for leading, directing and managing all aspects of the Bank’s lending activities, with special emphasis on minimizing risk in lending and ensuring profitable lending.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Plans and initiates strategies for portfolio development and recovery of loans; this includes analyzing all economic conditions, loan losses and trends and loan product concentrations
  • Prepares and calculates monthly Allowance for Loan Losses Provision and makes recommendations to the Managing Director
  • Responsible for soliciting, underwriting, and negotiating loans in compliance with the Bank’s lending policies and procedures
  • Conducts market surveys and identifies new and viable markets for lending business
  • Initiates plans for recruitment, training, and development of Credit Officers in accordance with the loans portfolio development and makes recommendations to the Human Resources Manager
  • Complies, disseminates, and monitors implementation of lending policies, procedures, and Central Bank regulations (especially regarding classification and recovery of outstanding portfolio). Reviews on a regular basis and submits appropriate improvement plans and strategies
  • Monitors staff in daily tasks, operations, and quality control
  • Monitors and controls the performance of all loans and overdrafts including staff loans
  • Devises, and keeps to, roster for regular visitation of branches to assess lending performance
  • Cross checks and confirms accuracy of all data, facts and figures to be presented to the Managing Director
  • Monitors the application of loan accounting system in all branches and ensures that loan accounts balance, commissions and interest are properly calculated
  • Prepares and distributes credit information covering loan quality trends, growth trends, loan product concentrations; works closely with credit officers in reviewing such topics as the local economy and assessing the impact on the Bank’s loan portfolio
  • Supervises the Bank’s special assets areas in curing weak credits, collection of such credits, or the movement of such undesirable credits; assists in compilation of loan status reports and implementing respective loan action plans of the Bank to the Managing Director for review
  • Assists in meeting annual loan growth goals assigned by Executive Management and the Board of Directors
Required Educational Skills
  • A University First Degree in Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, or related discipline; at least eight years’ experience in banking with at least five years in commercial lending
  • Experience, knowledge, and training in financial statement analysis typically resulting from a combination of education in accounting, financial and/or credit analysis or related areas
  • Knowledge of related Bank of Guyana regulations, Financial Institutions Act, AML & CFT Laws, Companies Act, local banking compliance regulations, and other applicable
  • Ability to develop marketing and business development skills with Customers
  • Thorough understanding of management procedures; ability to plan department or Bank activities (setting objectives, developing strategies, budgeting; and developing policies and procedures); effectively participate in staff
